Journal Prompts to Get Over a Breakup

Going through a breakup isn’t easy. There is no instruction manual on how to get over something so devastating.

We all have our methods, mine complete darkness, ice cream, and funny movies to distract me from the world around me.

Combining your relationship and reliving memories is often the last thing we want to do after a breakup, but it’s often the fastest way to heal.

When you feel ready to process your emotions, or even if you don’t feel ready. Pour yourself a drink, put on some music, grab a journal and get ready to face those emotions so you can move on. Here are some journal prompts to get you on the right track.

Journal Prompts For You!

  1. How are you feeling today? Is it better or worse than yesterday? How do you hope to feel tomorrow?
  2. What emotions does thinking of your ex conjure up? Why is this?
  3. How do you feel about yourself right now?
  4. What’s your ‘tough pill to swallow’ regarding this relationship?
  5. What do you know you have to do to move on, but it sucks to admit?
  6. What’s one big lesson you learned from your relationship?
  7. What’s something you know you need to forgive yourself for?
  8. What are 10 things you love about yourself.
  9. What is something that instantly makes you feel safe and calm?
  10. What are three awesome things about being single?
  11. How do you feel about moving on?

Journal Prompts For Them

  1. What do you miss about your ex?
  2. Did you display any toxic or unhealthy behaviors with your ex? If so, what?
  3. Write a list of everything you did not like about your ex.
  4. Why did you guys break up?
  5. What red flags did you ignore?
  6. How did they make you a better person?
  7. How did they limit your life?
  8. How did they break your heart?

This won’t be easy but this is a start. If you continue to write you may find getting over them gets easier.
