Elspeth needs a monster. The monster might be her.

Elspeth Spindle needs more than luck to stay safe in the eerie, mist-locked kingdom of Blunder—she needs a monster. She calls him the Nightmare, an ancient, mercurial spirit trapped in her head. He protects her. He keeps her secrets.

But nothing comes for free, especially magic.

When Elspeth meets a mysterious highwayman on the forest road, her life takes a drastic turn. Thrust into a world of shadow and deception, she joins a dangerous quest to cure Blunder from the dark magic infecting it. And the highwayman? He just so happens to be the King’s nephew, Captain of the most dangerous men in Blunder…and guilty of high treason.

Together they must gather twelve Providence Cards—the keys to the cure. But as the stakes heighten and their undeniable attraction intensifies, Elspeth is forced to face her darkest secret yet: the Nightmare is slowly taking over her mind. And she might not be able to stop him.

I gave this book a 4/5. “One Dark Window” takes you on a mesmerizing adventure through the realm of gothic fantasy, immersing you in a captivating world that completely entranced me. The atmospheric charm of shadowy, ominous woods shrouded in dense fog and mystical mists, coupled with the mysterious attraction of dark sorcery, held me in absolute fascination.

“To the quiet girls with stories in their heads. To their dreams—and their nightmares.”—the author

World Ender meets Ender of Worlds…
A thousand years ago, Dianna gave up her life in the deserts of Erioa to save her dying sister. She called upon anyone who would listen, not expecting a monster far worse than any nightmare to answer. Now she does what Kaden asks, even if that means securing an ancient relic from the very creatures that hunt her.

A King thought long dead and long forgotten.
In the old world his name was Samkiel. In the new world it is Liam, but one title remains true throughout time. He is the World Ender, a myth to his enemies, a savior and King to those loyal to him. After the Gods War, he locked himself away, hiding from the world. He denied his crown and responsibilities, leaving the very ones who needed him most to deal with the fallout of the death of their homeworld. Now an attack on those he holds dear sends him back to the one realm he never wished to visit again and into the sights of an enemy he thought imprisoned eons ago.

Now enemies older than time must put aside their differences and work together in hopes of saving both their world and every realm in between.

5/5 It’s nearly flawless😍😍 The characters are incredibly intricate yet endearing. Liam serves as the World Ender and our romantic focus. He embodies the essence of grumpiness, but delving into his highs and lows is a profoundly moving experience. You’ll quickly fall for him; he’s an unabashed romantic who wears his heart on his sleeve. Dianna, our fearless female protagonist, is a formidable warrior. However, her excessive snarkiness left something to be desired at times. As the story unfolds, she steadily improves. Kaden assumes the role of the antagonist, and although we’re meant to despise him, there’s a certain allure to his character that draws in the reader (or at least it drew me in).

“I didn’t remember how long we talked, but somewhere amidst her laughter and smiles, I decided I would rip the world apart for her.”

The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Add to Goodreads: The Final Gambit

To inherit billions, all Avery Kylie Grambs has to do is survive a few more weeks living in Hawthorne House. The paparazzi are dogging her every step. Financial pressures are building. Danger is a fact of life. And the only thing getting Avery through it all is the Hawthorne brothers. Her life is intertwined with theirs. She knows their secrets and they know her.

But as the clock ticks down to the moment when Avery will become the richest teenager on the planet, trouble arrives in the form of a visitor who needs her help—and whose presence in Hawthorne House could change everything. It soon becomes clear that there is one last puzzle to solve, and Avery and the Hawthorne brothers are drawn into a dangerous game against an unknown and powerful player.

4/5 I did love the twist and turns and I believe this was a great installment to the series. had literally SUCH a good time reading this story and spending more time with these characters.

“Sometimes you have an idea of a person — about who they are, about what you’d be like together. But sometimes that’s all that it is: an idea.”
