If you’ve ever picked up a Callie Hart book, you already know she’s not here to give you a peaceful reading experience. And Brimstone? Yeah… this one grabbed me by the throat and didn’t let go until the last page.
Let’s get into it.
A Story That Never Lets You Breathe (In a Good Way)
From page one, Brimstone is all momentum. The action is sharp, constant, and just flat-out entertaining. Every time I thought I had a handle on where things were headed, Hart threw another curveball that had me sitting up straighter like, “Wait, I’m sorry, WHAT just happened?”
Twists, betrayals, magic, danger — the whole thing feels like being dropped into a storm you secretly enjoy.
And Then… There’s Carrion
Listen. I need to be extremely transparent here: Carrion owns me. Fully. Completely. No competition.
This man walked into the story and immediately became the only character I cared about for several chapters at a time. Every scene with him? Perfection. Everyone else faded into background noise when he was around. He’s charming, dangerous, unhinged in just the right way, and somehow still the moral center of my heart.
If the series wants to dedicate a whole book to him and only him, I will not complain. In fact, I will send a thank-you basket.
The Spice Level? Let’s Talk.
Okay, look. I enjoy romance. I enjoy tension. I enjoy chemistry that could boil water.
But Brimstone comes in hot — like “ma’am, this is a Wendy’s” hot.
There were moments where I was mentally begging the characters to pause the extracurricular activities because the world was literally burning around them. The spice wasn’t bad; it just leaned a little heavy for me, especially when I was desperately trying to keep track of the plot twists.
Still fun. Just… spicy enough that I had to hydrate.
Pacing, World-Building & All That Good Stuff
The pacing isn’t perfect — a few dips here and there — but the story always finds its speed again. The world-building sometimes slows things down a bit, but not in a way that made me want to tap out. More like, “Okay, let’s get through this lore so we can get back to the explosions.”
Final Thoughts: A Solid, Chaotic, Delightful 4 Stars
Brimstone is messy, intense, twist-heavy, and wildly entertaining. It’s the kind of book you pick up when you’re in the mood for fast-paced chaos, morally gray characters, and romance that does not know how to sit quietly in the corner.
Despite the overly spicy moments and the occasional pacing wobble, I had a great time. And let’s be honest… Carrion alone is worth a star all by himself.
If you love dramatic fantasy worlds, unpredictable plots, and characters who make terrible decisions with full confidence, go ahead and add this one to your TBR.
