For the last few months, I have been improving my mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health. It has been said that when you write the things that you want, they are more likely to come true. I have a few things to get this process up and running. I found a new church home, I started a book club, and I became open to the idea of making new friends. (I am a bit of a loaner).
I have been writing for years but I never sat down and wrote down all the things I want for my life. I pray often, but the power of words has a different power. One day while scrolling through social media, I stumbled upon “Write Your Vision, Motivated” by Steve Harvey.
In it, Steve shares two scriptures (James 4:2-3 and Habakuk 2:2) that helped to change the course of his life.
James 4:2-3 You have not because you ask not.
Habakuk 2:2 Write your vision make it plain.
The Challenge
- Write down everything you want.
- Write at least 300 things. (At 75, you might get stuck because our brain is not conditioned to think that far into the future but be detailed as possible. When you get stuck, think of these things.
- How many cars do you want?
- What kind of car?
- What color?
- Where do you want your next house to be?
- Do you want a summer home?
- Where do you want to travel to?
- How much money do you want in the bank?
- How much would you like to have when you retire?
- How much would you like to give your siblings?
- What do you want for your children?
- Read your list every night and every morning. When you wake up in the morning, read this list. Before bed at night, read this list.
Here are some areas you can focus on,
- Career goals
- Education goals
- Financial goals
- Fitness goals
- Spiritual goals
- Personal goals
- Materialistic Items
- Vacations
- Opportunities/ Experiences
- Giving/Charitable gifts
- Business ideas
- Family traditions
- Dreams/Bucket List Items
Let’s go a step further and create a vision board with pictures and motivation to get through the year. Take a photo of your vision board, this is your signal to God of what you want Him to do for you. Save the photo as your phone and computer screen saver to make your vision board visible and easily accessible.
One year from today, take a pen and check off anything that has to happen to you on that list. Read that list with the expectation that God will do these things for you. Steve says at least 30 things on that list will be given to you.
Today, I am asking you to join me for Steve Harvey’s #300wishlist challenge. Grab a notebook and write down everything you are asking God for. Try to get your list done by the New Year, then let’s check in with each other to see what we’ve marked off our list.
Join me later this week when I share some things on my personal list.
